Q: What is the difference between a Statutory Board and a Ministry?
The Singapore Public Service offers a wide range of career opportunities
and employs about 152,000 public officers who work in 16 Ministries and
more than 50 Statutory Boards. Within the Public Service is the Civil Service,
comprising about 86,000 officers working in the Ministries.
Statutory boards (such as HDB, CPF Board, IRAS, etc) have their own recruitment
and human resource management practices. They are legally distinct employers
from the Civil Service.

Q: Does the Public Service accept candidates from any discipline or do I have to specialise in a particular field?
The Public Service generally accepts candidates from all disciplines. However, for positions in specialised fields such as accountancy, legal and medical services, a professional degree in the relevant field of study is required.
Q: How are starting salaries determined in the Public Service?

Q: Is it true that the Public Service only recruits graduates with excellent academic qualifications?
The Public Service offers a wide range of jobs with different requirements. We take into account a variety of factors when considering candidates for our roles such as relevant skills that align with the job’s requirements. Officers from diverse backgrounds serving in these roles bring their own skills, experiences and perspectives to their job.
Q: When can I apply for an internship or entry-level position?
For Entry-Level Positions: If you are a final-year undergraduate graduating soon, you may start applying through any on-going recruitment exercises. If you are found suitable, you may be given a provisional offer of appointment.
For Internships: Applications for internships are open year-round and are typically posted three to six months before the start date. You may find internships that are currently recruiting via our job portal.
Q: Can non-Singaporeans apply for internships and full-time jobs?
Yes, non-Singaporeans can apply and be considered for jobs in the Public Service. Non-citizen officers generally serve in positions that require skills that are in shortage among our local workforce, such as engineering and information technology; and where the security concerns can be managed adequately.
